I knew that when we moved to pushing updates directly to the project modules that some core features were less than ideal but I am surprised just how little exists in vanilla. No wonder the project modules are so bloated.

For example, module\users had developed a nasty case of tight coupling with content and comment.

For example, module\comment does not provide a full set of vanilla stream views. [template_comment_stream is missing]

For example, the module\content\edit method only works for a select subset of content types.

We need to pay off a large amount of this code debt before we can roll out new features.
